Cycling: The 6-day specialist Leif Lampater (Maloja Pushbikers) is the new German champion in the Derny competition. At the weekend he secured the title ahead of Lars Teutenberg (Lexxi Speedbikes) and Kersten Thiele (rad-net Rose).
At the first Derny-DM since 2000, Lampater was the winner of the two Derny Germany Cup-Race entered the race as a big favourite. He was able to confidently meet the expectations of the spectators. He won the pre-run with a one-lap lead and, like his team-mate Nico Heßlich, made it safely into the final.
In the final, both then met a surprisingly strong Teutenberg. He pushed the pace with a big gait from the beginning and made it exciting again at the end.
"I didn't really expect Lars to be so strong, he really made life difficult for me today", Lampater finally commented on the race. With an average of 60,6 kilometers per hour, he secured the title behind his pacemaker Peter Bäuerlein.
60 laps before the end of the race, both had taken the lead. "We kept slowing down the pace and then speeding it up so that Lars had problems with his big gait and got tired.", said the man from Rosenheim, who was able to fend off a last attack by Teutenberg two laps before the end. In the end, Heßlich finished eighth.
