Cycling: Emanuel Buchmann from the Rad-net Rose team won the U23 title at the German Mountain Championships in Berchtesgaden. With his victory, the 21-year-old also took over the overall lead in the cycling Bundesliga. His team colleague Mario Vogt rounded off the team result by winning the bronze medal.
"I'm happy to have won my first German championship title", said Buchmann after his impressive victory. On the 13-kilometer course with 1020 meters of altitude and an average gradient of 9,3 percent, he prevailed in 40:15 minutes. He was not only the fastest U23 driver, but also exactly one minute faster than the elite champion Sebastian Baldauf in the field that started together.
"It went great. I had good legs and ran the race from the front”, says Buchman. Johannes Berndl from RSV 1948 Traunstein was the only one who could even come close to keeping up with the Ravensburger. On the last steep section, Buchmann attacked effortlessly and secured the championship title with a lead of eight seconds. Mario Vogt finished third, 1:49 minutes behind Buchmann on the Ahornbüchsenkopf.
“That was a demonstration of Emanuel's strength in this demanding elimination race. A very strong performance. He deservedly became German mountain champion", said Ralf Grabsch, sporting director of the Rad-net Rose team. “Mario's third place rounds off the team's already great performance by winning the team classification. It was a dreamlike day for us with perfect weather.”, summarized Grabsch.
