cycling: Tour de France: Bittersweet day for IAM

July 12, 2014 by the editorial office

Cycling: The Swiss team IAM experienced a bittersweet day yesterday. For the first time on this tour, a driver from the team, Martin Elmiger, was allowed to climb onto the podium. However, together with Mathias Frank, the team captain had to leave the race with serious injuries.

In the final of yesterday's stage there were repeated falls. Those affected included the two Americans Tejay Van Garderen and Andrew Talansky, who only had skin abrasions to complain about, as their teams announced.

It was worse for the Swiss Mathias Frank. At the end of the straight, the Swiss fell and fractured his left thigh. The 27-year-old then completed the stage, but then underwent further medical examinations. The fracture was found in these. He is scheduled for surgery later today.

In addition to Frank's retirement, the team was also able to celebrate Elmiger's honor as the most combative driver. He broke up early in the race with the Pole Bartosz Huzarski (NetApp-Endura) and dominated the race up to twenty kilometers from the finish.
