cycling: Roompot Vakanties: Saving Belkin?

July 13, 2014 by the editorial office

Cycling: Like the online portal Cyclingnews reports, there may be hope for Team Belkin to find a new sponsor for the outgoing US company by August. If you believe the information, then the holiday operator Rompot Vakanties has a budget ready to get into cycling.

However, the company is currently negotiating with the Orange Cyclingproject around Erik Breukink and Michael Boogerd, both of whom want to set up an all-Dutch ProConti team.

Those responsible for the Belkin team, in which two Germans drive with Paul Martens and Robert Wagner, still have funds available from the time when Rabobank was the main sponsor. According to the team, the aim is to contest races at the highest level again in the coming year.

Belkin is stepping down as a sponsor at the end of the year, failing to live up to its promise to support the team through the end of 2015.

Roompot Vakanties could be the welcome solution. The amount the company is willing to invest is not known. What is certain, however, is that Orange Cycling will hardly ask for seven million euros, as is the case for Team Belkin. Both projects have set themselves a deadline of August 1st.
