Cycling: Nino Schurter won his third national championship title in a row last weekend. In Lostorf he successfully prevailed against Fabian Giger and his teammate Florian Vogel.
The Swiss XC elite fought for the national championship title under rainy conditions at the weekend. Nino Schurter was able to secure his third title in a row and relegated Fabian Giger and Florian Vogel to second and third place. After the three-man lead group broke away from the field early on, Schurter attacked in the ninth of ten laps and won in an impressive solo. Despite the difficult conditions, he drove like he was on rails and was able to open a gap of ten seconds within a few minutes.
Fabian Giger tried to follow Schurter but couldn't make contact with his rear wheel. Giger secured the silver medal, 13 seconds back.
“It was a very fast race, which wasn't easy given the weather conditions. But I'm very happy with my performance because the competition was really strong today.", Nino Schurter is quoted on SwissCycling.ch.
As so often this season, Jolanda Neff rode in a different world for the women. Right from the start she stormed forward and drove one lap time after the other. At the finish she finally had a more than comfortable lead of 5:30 minutes and thus won her first elite championship undisputedly. Meanwhile, Kathrin Stirnemann took silver, followed by Esther Süss.
