Cycling: Georg Egger from the Lexware mountain bike team secured the German championship title in the U23 category in Hausach. Martin Frey and Egger's teammate Christian Pfäffle completed the podium.

Last weekend, Christian Pfäffle started the race for the German U23 championship title as the defending champion. Battered by health problems and injuries, however, he was not the top favorite at the start. Meanwhile, his 19-year-old teammate Georg Egger took the initiative. Already after the short starting lap he took the lead and attacked. Ben Zwiehoff managed to stand up to Egger, but had to let him go because of a broken chain.

“I maybe overdid it a bit”, Egger confessed his early attack. Then he took a small fall, which threw him a bit. Martin Frey from Bad Urach caught up and both drove together at the front for two laps. In Frey's shadow, Egger seemed to be able to recover from his early attack and started again on the penultimate lap. "I had great legs today. To be honest, I was already thinking about the title, but you never know how the competition is doing."said a beaming Georg Egger after his triumph. Martin Frey secured the runner-up title with a deficit of 39 seconds.

Meanwhile, Christian Pfäffle made the best of his situation and defeated Louis Wolf in the battle for the bronze medal. “Under the known circumstances, I can be very satisfied with that. Above all, I felt good today and that makes me confident for the next few weeks.", said Pfäffle, who crossed the finish line 52 seconds behind.
