Product news: Schwalbe Procore: Insight into the double chamber system

June 27, 2014 by the editorial office

Market: A few months ago, a somewhat astonishing innovation from Schwalbe appeared. You could see a wheel with two valves. A short time later, Schwalbe announced details of the new double-chamber system for the first time.

Now Schwalbe also has a product name and other details of the new system. Procore is a derivative of Progressive Core. The "core" is filled with a high pressure of almost four to six bar and progressively cushions even very hard hits. This allows you to run the outer tire with extremely low air pressure, which is known to lead to exceptional grip. Up to now you could hardly risk driving with less than 1,5 bar, because then the risk of snake bites is simply too great.

The system is a joint development with Syntace and can be fitted to all wheels with a rim width of approx. 23 millimeters or more.

What the system is capable of doing was already proven at the Enduro World Series in Scotland. Cube Action Team's Nico Lau clinched his first EWS victory on challenging terrain using the Schwalbe Procore System. And the system also seems to be best suited for the really hard pace. Sam Hill has already driven it in the DH World Cup and was able to take second place in Fort William.

All drivers are absolutely enthusiastic about the new possibilities offered by the double-chamber system:

  • ƒ The tire pressure can be reduced to one bar, which is supposed to create maximum grip
  • ƒ The tire reacts extremely sensitively as a suspension
  • ƒ The plus in cushioning and traction brings significantly better control over the bike
  • ƒ The end of the risk of breakdown. The rims are also extremely well protected against dents
  • ƒ Significantly lighter tires can be used even in tough conditions
  • ƒ In the event of a breakdown: excellent emergency running properties thanks to the inner high-pressure air chamber

At the same time, the internal high-pressure system secures the tire on the rim. "Burping", the dreaded loss of air at low pressure in conventional tubeless systems, should thus be completely ruled out. The extra weight is said to be 200 grams per wheel and will be available for all three wheel sizes. The system should be available to end customers from early 2015. There is currently no price.
