Clothing: Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal LTD: Back to the 80's

June 8, 2014 by the editorial office

Test: If you look at the streets of the big cities at the moment, you quickly get the feeling that you are in the late 80s or early 90s. The vintage or retro look rules the streets and it is not surprising that one or the other clothing manufacturer is also embracing the style and trying out more daring designs.

Among these manufacturers is Shimano's subsidiary Pearl Izumi. With the Elite Thermal LTDjersey they have a warm companion in their program, which is offered in many designs.

equipment and practice

We couldn't escape the influence of the big city either and liked the simple, bright design of the jersey, so that it finally accompanied us through spring. Made from 100 percent polyester and with a fleeced inside, the jersey promises good warmth. According to Pearl Izumi, the jersey should be perfect for temperatures between 4 and 15 degrees. With a full-length zip and three jersey pockets, it should also convince with good functionality.

It is beautifully finished and makes a typical Pearl Izumi solid impression. The fabric lies well in the hand and the fleece on the inside already gives an idea that the Elite Thermal LTD not cold. The cuffs and waistband are elastic. In general, the jersey has a very body-hugging cut. Shape Fit Pearl Izumi calls the cut, but riders with a slightly wider cross will quickly feel restricted.

The heat function does that Elite Thermal LTD however, fully comply. With an undershirt you are well prepared for single-digit temperatures. Thanks to the flexible fabric, you also have enough freedom of movement and can move quickly through the home realm, although we found the cuffs on the sleeves to be a bit uncomfortable. They constricted a little.

Functionally, however, it convinced us across the board. The ventilation and the associated moisture transport also works on the Elite Thermal and leaves no room for criticism. The only difference is in the design, but this is, as is well known, a matter of taste.

Conclusion

The Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal LTD by Pearl Izumi is made for spring and fall use. With a fleeced inside, it exudes pleasant warmth and does not let the body cool down, even at single-digit temperatures. It's still bearable in the summer if you plan to tour early in the morning. The Shape Fit-The cut is very sporty, but does not restrict the driver. Only the cuffs on the sleeves didn't quite convince us. So if you like an unusual design in the style of the 90s, the Elite Thermal LTD is the right choice for you.
