The trip of our Merkur Cycling Team to the Schleizer Dreieck Everyone-bike race. Although Daniel was not able to repeat his victory from last year, he was still able to put on the yellow jersey of the overall leader in the German Cycling Cup after the race. At the same time, we defended our top position in the ranking of the best teams.
Florian Vrecko from Team Strassacker secured the day's victory in East Thuringia, bringing a comfortable lead of more than one and a half minutes to the finish. In the sprint for second place, Daniel had to give way to his competitor Marek Bosniatzki (Bürstner Dümo). Christian Dengler and Friedrich Schweizer rounded off the good performance of the Merkur Cycling Team on the Schleizer Dreieck with ranks nine and ten.
“The day's result wasn't the focus for us today. We wanted to gain points in the battle for the team and individual rankings and extend our lead. We succeeded", Daniel commented on the race day's results. "The next races will be exciting and we're looking forward to our next appearance at the German Professional Championships in Baunatal."
"The Merkur Cycling Team is getting better and better", our main sponsor Markus Adam was delighted. “We are facing eventful races in the fight for overall victory in the German Cycling Cup. All teams are almost level and will not sacrifice anything.”
There isn't much time to rest. In just two weeks, we will meet the top teams of the German amateur scene at the seventh race in the German Cycling Cup as part of the German Professional Championships in Baunatal in Hesse.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the sixth race guarantees more excitement in the fight for the German amateur championship. Daniel was able to regain the yellow jersey of the overall leader and at the same time leads in the Masters 1 age group. The two-time winner of the season is now 23 points ahead of Sandro Kühmel (Bürstner-Dümo / 2.018) and has a total of 1.995 points. Kühmel's teammate Marek Bosniatzki (1.983) follows in third place and our Merkur Druck driver Stefan Räth (1.962) in fourth.
Friedrich Schweizer, Christian Dengler and Till Baltes are in sixth to eighth place in the top ten and within striking distance of the top ten, and veteran Bernd Weinhold is consolidating his lead with twelfth place overall, ahead of his teammate Manfred Böhm in his Master 3 age group.
With Stefan Räth, Friedrich Schweizer and Till Baltes, three drivers from our team are in the lead in the main class. In addition, Christine Göldner defended her top position in her Masters 3 age group. In the overall individual ranking, the only female rider in the Merkur Cycling Team is fourth.
In the ranking of the best teams in the German Cycling Cup, we lead ahead of Team Bürstner Dümo and the Lock8 Cycling Team.
