cycling: ITU World Triathlon: Mola wins in London

Triathlon: The Spaniard Mario Mola has already proven his good form several times this year. At the two opening events of the ITU World Triathlon Series he had to admit defeat to his compatriot Javier Gomez. It was different at Hyde Park.

In their homeland, the brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee once again had to give way to the competition. Although both had started well, they could not bring about a decision on the bike either.

Rather, a 17-man lead group stayed together, in which the Brownlee brothers, the overall leader Javier Gomez, and above all Mola were active.

The Spaniard then latched onto the heels of his training partner Richard Murray as he ran. He had pushed the pace in the last 1.000 meters and thus surprised the Brownlees, but also Gomez. In the end the South African had to admit defeat to Mola, who celebrated his first victory in the ITU World Triathlon Series, but he was able to successfully keep the Portuguese Joao Pereira at a distance.

The best German was Gregor Buchholz, who finished the race in twelfth place.

The American Gwen Jorgenson once again dominated the women's race. She won by almost half a minute over Sarah Groff and Emma Jackson. The German hopeful Anne Haug fell during the race and ended up in 49th place.
