cycling: Dave Brailsford reacts to Bradley Wiggins' interview

June 8, 2014 by the editorial office

brailsford

Cycling: The day before yesterday Bradley Wiggins announced in an interview with the BBC that he no longer believes in starting the Tour de France. [Link] The reason for this is his Sky teammate Chris Froome, around whom the team is formed and who probably also has a say. Today team manager Dave Brailsford denied Wiggins' views.

Brailsford announced that he will make his decision on the final squad following the Criterium du Dauphiné. "I will speak to our performance team", according to Brailsford. "While the drivers are allowed to express their opinions, they do not decide the line-up and they never will."

He also remarked that he will include the possible team spirit in his decision-making and played on that specific relationship between Froome and Wiggins, but also included the relationship of the other drivers in his testimony.

So it remains exciting. How will the final selection of the team that has dominated the tour in the last two years look like?
