Cycling: While the Giro d'Italia celebrated its hot phase in Italy and the most important German stage race was taking place in Bavaria, another part of the peloton took the streets of Belgium under their wheels.
The German professionals did particularly well. Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) celebrated his third overall victory in the tour. As in previous years, he laid the foundation for this in the time trial.
But André Greipel (Lotto Belisol) and Paul Martens (Belkin) were also successful. The reigning German champion Greipel prevailed on the fourth section of the five-day tour. Martens won the final stage yesterday, Sunday, which included parts of the Liège-Bastogne-Liège classic.
Sascha Weber also showed a remarkable performance. The third in the German Cyclocross Championships, who contests the road season for the Belgian team Veranclassic-Doltcini, was active throughout the tour.
