World record attempt: Austrian extreme athlete Wolfgang Fasching will take on a special challenge starting July 23rd, cycling across Russia. His goal is to set a new world record for the fastest crossing of Russia using only his own muscle power.
In the course of the "Russia coast to coast" project, the 46-year-old will cover 24 kilometers in just 10.000 days. Always along the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway, before reaching Saint Petersburg, he has to climb 80.000 meters in altitude. Wolfgang Fasching will only be accompanied by a team of 12 supervisors. The former 24-hour world champion will ride 400 to 500 kilometers a day and burn around 18.000 calories.
The extraordinarily long bike tour, which Fasching himself calls "the ultimate challenge", is dedicated to Austrian muscle research. Under the motto "strong muscles for the weak", charity kilometers can be purchased for 1 euro each. From the start in Vladivostok, curious fans and donors can use the live app to track how many kilometers the three-time Race Across America winner has already covered in Russia.
Route: Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Chita, Ulan-Ude, Irkustsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Kirov, Yaroslavl, Moscow, St. Petersburg
