Cycling: The fourth stage of the Tour of California was something for the escapees. After the exertions of the last two days, the 168 kilometers from Monterey to Cambria provided the perfect terrain for a group to celebrate success. However, who now Mr Rouleur himself typed, he saw himself deceived. Jens Voigt (Trek) missed the leap into the group.
It was a different story for Will Routley (Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies). The Canadian not only made it to the top, but also secured all the mountain classifications along the way. This underpinned his lead in this ranking. In the final sprint, he then prevailed against his five fellow breakaways. Second was Gregory Daniel (Bissell), third was Kevin De Mesmaeker (Novo Nordisk).
The leading group had already separated a few kilometers after the start and then showed a clever driving style. She also benefited from the fact that the sprinter teams started the pursuit too late.
There were no changes in the overall rating. Bradley Wiggins (Sky) continues to wear the yellow jersey. However, the second Rohan Dennis (Garmin-Sharp) lost four seconds. A late division of the field was fatal.
