650B is one of the new mottos of the MTB scene. The medium-sized wheels are increasingly determining the market image of sporty bikes and are now largely replacing the previous 26-inch standard. This may make sense in two ways: on the one hand, a 650B is usually more agile than a 29er, but on the other hand it is often smoother than a conventional 26-inch bike.
equipment and practice
The KTM Myroon 27 Master is one of Mattighofen's top models in the XC area. The carbon frame has modern and visually appealing lines with a very sporty geometry. A tapered head tube with an angle of 70 degrees is installed at the front. The bottom bracket as well as the struts and the 3D dropouts have also been reinforced to give the bike more rigidity and more directional stability. It's nice that that Myroon 27 Master with a fighting weight of just under ten kilos remains fit for racing.
And the bike also feels at home at racing speed. It loves fast single trails as well as long climbs. The chainstays, which are relatively short at 425 millimeters, allow crisp acceleration, and the well-measured wheelbase inspires confidence even at high speeds. However, tall riders on really demanding trails, where rocks and roots dominate the picture, should use the brother's wheel size Myroon 29 Master wish. Although the seating position on the Myroon 27 Master sporty enough not to lose control, but the rollover behavior is noticeably more restless than with the larger wheels.
Apart from that, prepare this Myroon 27 Master however a lot of fun. The high-quality equipment also contributes to this. So there is one at the front WCS-Handlebar-stem combination from Ritchey installed. The seat post also comes from the portfolio of the MTB legend. The saddle is from Fizik.
Shimano supplies the shifting components. KTM installed an almost complete one here XTgroup that has an all-round suitable gradation from 2 to 38 teeth on the 24-speed crank. The cassette is spread from 11 to 36 teeth. This means that even the steepest climbs can be mastered. The only exception in this context is the rear derailleur. Here the top model of the Japanese is used. The XTR Shadow plus is constructed in such a way that it is not only narrow, but also eliminates unsightly chain slap.
Another feature plus are the XT-Brakes, which are very well bled on our test bike and allow good brake metering. We also like the fact that KTM has installed the lines on the Myroon 27 Master are largely internal. This ensures a pleasantly tidy look. Only in the area of the handlebars do several lines come to light. However, the LockOut cable of the RockShox is also among these SID-Fork that, with its 100 millimeters of travel, offers enough reserves on many trails.
The wheels on this sporty, agile Austrian come from Switzerland. DT Swiss Spline 1 27.5 are tubeless ready. This is good for all those who want to optimize the tires. But it doesn't really need that, because the pleasantly narrow swallow RocketRontires offer a pleasant weight even with tubes and, what is much more important, an appealing performance including puncture protection.
Conclusion
KTM delivers with the Myroon 27 Master a solid bike that is fun, especially for smaller riders. The bike is agile and strong when it comes to sprinting, mastering curves just as easily as flowing single trail passages. However, tall riders on root carpets and in stone fields may prefer the smooth running of the 29er model. However, if these are generally too big for you, you get a coherent overall package at a good price.
