At the UCI 1.2 Omloop van Waasland race over a distance of 190 km last weekend we were at the start with Tino Thömel, Max Walsleben, Nico Holler, Alexander Krieger, Kai Kautz, Jack Cummings, Florian Nowak and Martin Reinert.
Immediately after the start, an 11-strong lead group around Tino was able to break away from the field. Almost all of the top teams found themselves in this group. Within a very short time, everyone agreed, so that the lead over the rest of the field quickly increased to almost two minutes.
Only after 180 kilometers did the BMC Racing team, with the support of Wanty-Groupe Gobert, succeed in penetrating the leading group. This brought the eventual winner, Danilo Napolitano, into position. In the wake of the two teams, we didn't have to do any leadership work and were therefore able to prepare for the final sprint. That worked out quite well, as Alexander Krieger's fourth place shows.
Of course, fourth place is a thankless rating and we would have been happy to have been on the winner's podium. Nevertheless, we are very satisfied with the end result - we were able to assert ourselves very well in a really strong field of drivers. This sense of achievement gives us more motivation and confidence for the upcoming races.
