After the Tour de France organizer ASO announced a few weeks ago that a women's race will also be held on the final day of the upcoming Tour of France on the Champs-Elysées [Link], those responsible for the Vuelta a España are now following suit.

Tour boss Javier Guillén (photo on the left) told the Spanish daily AS: "Similar to the Tour, we also want to organize a women's race on the final day next year." This year this is not possible due to the route, as the race ends with an individual time trial in Santiago de Compostela. Irrespective of this, this situation also gives the organizing agency Unipublic the opportunity to learn from the Paris event.

It is unclear whether there will also be a Tour of Spain for women in the future, based on the Giro Donne or the former Tour de France Feminine. Although this is required by some drivers in the women's peloton. However, Guillén did not provide any information about this.
