cycling: Tour of Oman #6: Greipel takes third stage win

23. February 2014 by the editorial office

Oman

The sixth and final stage of the Tour of Oman ran over 146 kilometers from As Sifah to Matrah Corniche and was again all about the sprinters. In the end, German champion André Greipel (Lotto Belisol) was able to celebrate his third stage win, his sixth win of the season. Second was the Frenchman Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr), who relegated the British Sam Bennett from the German team NetApp-Endura to third place.

As in the days before, a breakaway group initially determined the events of the day. Christopher Juul Jensen (Tinkoff-Saxo), Michael Hepburn (Orica-GreenEdge) and Alessandro Bazzana (UnitedHealthcare) pulled away early and was only caught in the last few kilometers by the chasing field.

Also in the field was Chris Froome (Sky), who safely brought the leader's jersey to the finish line and was able to celebrate his second overall success in Oman after 2013. He relegated Tejay van Garderen (BMC) and Rigoberto Uran (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) to their places. Greipel was the driver with the best points in the final classification.
