A few days ago, a Twitter image of reigning Tour de France champion Chris Froome caused a sensation online. The picture showed the Briton in a brand-new skinsuit that, quite literally, revealed a lot of skin.
British apparel manufacturer Rapha has officially unveiled this suit. The Road Race Mesh Skinsuit was developed in close collaboration with the riders of Team Sky and was used for the first time in Australia at the People's Choice Classic. Its particularly impressive feature is its low weight: the suit weighs just 196.6 grams.
The mesh structure and material are the same as those used in the company's own Pro Team baselayers and are designed to guarantee optimal ventilation. The ColdBlack material and an antibacterial treatment are intended to contribute to wearing comfort.
Rapha currently has no plans to release the skinsuit commercially. However, a replica in jersey form, the Team Sky Mesh Jersey , is planned for summer 2014.
