Clothing: Pearl Izumi PRO Softshell 3×1: Fit for the cold season

The new year is now in its third week and while winter in other parts of the world is expecting freezing cold and large amounts of snow, the first crocuses dare to appear in the meadows in this country. Actually perfect conditions to prepare for the season away from the roller trainers. However, in order to avoid the risk of catching a cold, you should attach importance to your clothing. A candidate who seems predestined for this thanks to his versatility is Pearl Izumis PRO Softshell 3×1 jacket combination.

Behind the somewhat unwieldy name is a product that Pearl Izumi herself called "Cold Weather System" describes. The PRO Softshell 3×1 consists of a soft shell jacket, a down jacket and a balaclava covering the entire head. It is practical that you can wear all three pieces of clothing separately, which means that the jacket can be used in a wide variety of ways. On cool days it is sufficient to remove both the hood and the down jacket. This is done by means of push buttons and is relatively quick to do. All you need under the softshell jacket is a high-quality functional undershirt.

The black and red softshell jacket is windproof and waterproof. It has two chest pockets and a slightly larger pocket on the back. Although this can be conveniently closed with a zipper, which makes sense especially when driving in the rain, it is divided inside in such a way that you have problems getting out bars or the like quickly while driving. This is due on the one hand to the loose cut of the three integrated compartments, which are combined with an additional larger compartment, and on the other hand to the length of the back of the jacket.

The sleeves are ergonomically cut. This means that there are no excessive folds around the elbows while driving. An insert in the armpits ensures adequate ventilation. There are also reflectors on the chest and back, which increase the driver's visibility in the dark. Considering the choice of color for the jacket, this is a very useful addition.

The red down jacket has no pockets. On the other hand, it has a much more body-hugging cut than its outer counterpart and thus cuts a fine figure even outside of the intended area of use. Thanks to the processed Primaloft® material, the jacket is extremely light, but still very warm. In combination with the softshell jacket, Pearl Izumi guarantees a pleasant body climate even when driving with temperatures around minus 15 degrees. And while you might smile at the supplied hood at first, you will appreciate it in such temperatures.

 //Conclusion

Pearl Izumi has with the PRO Softshell 3×1 an all-rounder for the cold season in the range, which is not cheap at 349,95 euros, but is worth its price. The two jackets included in the set complement each other perfectly, but you can also wear them comfortably separately. There is no need to buy another jacket for the cooler autumn or spring days. Thought through to the last detail, Pearl is Izumis PRO Softshell 3×1 without a doubt an everyday tip.
