cycling: Track World Cup #2: German sprinters set a world record

6 December 2013 by the editorial office

team sprint

The German team sprinters are also the measure of all things in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and caused a real bang on the first day of the second World Cup stop. With a qualifying time of 41,871 seconds, they improved the world record set by the British at the 2012 London Olympics by more than half a second. René Enders, Robert Förstemann and Joachim Eilers were visibly happy.

“We had aimed for this result. That's certainly a record that will stand for a while.", national coach Detlef Uibel is quoted on rad-net.de in this regard.

But the other German starters didn't show any weakness either. As with the men, the reigning team sprint Olympic champions for women, Miriam Welte and Kristina Vogel, also dominated their competition. In the final they defeated Great Britain.

Stefanie Pohl then ensured a successful start. Thanks to a lap advantage, she secured victory in the women's points race. The Canadian Jasmin Glaesser took second place. For Pohl it was the first victory in a World Cup.
