cycling: UCI Commission: One woman per committee in future

18 November 2013 by the editorial office

Cookson

In the future, at least one woman will be represented on every UCI committee. The world cycling association UCI announced this today after naming the members of its 18 commissions.

“I am delighted with this announcement, which is helping to re-establish women's presence. This was one of my priorities of my mandate, along with the international development of cycling and the reform of the UCI administration”, said UCI President Brian Cookson.

For example, the Dutch Olympic champion Marianne Vos is an athlete's representative on the UCI Road Cycling Commission, and the British Helen Wyman is on the UCI Cyclocross Commission. In line with its policy, Cookson has also created three new commissions: "Women", “International Development and National Associations” as well as a committee "Constitutional Assessment".

Six Germans are among the members of the 18 commissions: Toni Kirsch (Bahn), Claudia Bee (Halle), Mark Butterman (women), Katharina Grimm and Olaf Schumacher (both medicine) and Peter Barth (ethics).
