Testing: Rollei Actioncam 5+: 3, 2, 1...Action!

The triumph of helmet cameras began on the water. More specifically, it is closely linked to the story of surfer Nick Woodman. The current boss of the company GoPro came up with the idea of attaching a small camera to his wrist to take pictures while surfing almost ten years ago during a surf trip. The rest of the story is history. Woodman is now a billionaire and it takes more than two hands to count all the companies making helmet cams today. With the Action Cam 5+ the German camera manufacturer Rollei is now also entering the market.

//Equipment and practice

The model, which is specially made for the bicycle market, initially catches the eye with its striking color scheme. The Rollei falls in bright orange Action Cam 5+ definitely on every helmet or bike. It will be difficult to forget them at the break during the tour.

What particularly impressed us is the accessories that Rollei der Action Cam 5+ added from home. From the handlebar mount to adhesive fasteners to the helmet strap, from the remote control to the external battery - you are not used to such comprehensive basic equipment from models from the competition.

In action, you drive well with this basic equipment. But you have to keep two things in mind. Firstly, you should tighten the screw holders with a Phillips screwdriver, unfortunately manual strength alone is not enough to hold the camera in place on a rough surface, and secondly, you always have to switch the camera on before packing it in the housing, otherwise this will not happen not possible. From the outside, however, you can take photos and of course film as you wish.

Both the photo and video quality are at a high level, although the recordings have a slight green tint. However, this is only significant if you take a closer look. While recording 10 frames per second with the push of a button, the camera films with 1080 i at 60 fps. [Link] The sound quality is also appealing, especially since the Action Cam 5+ offers the possibility to retrofit an external microphone.

The alignment of the camera is easy thanks to an integrated laser. However, if this is not enough, you can remove the screen from the camera and attach a Bluetooth adapter. This and a special app then allow the camera to be aligned using the mobile phone display.

By the way, if the orange is a bit too bright at the end of the day, Rollei also has a black version of the Action Cam 5+ in program.

//Conclusion

Rollei offers with the Action Cam 5+ a model that shows itself in many ways right from the start. The supplied accessories are comprehensive and allow for many gimmicks. However, you should pay attention to the correct tightening torques for the screw mounts in order not to damage the camera. The recordings themselves are convincing. Although there are cameras on the market that have a higher frame rate, this does not detract from the end result. You can get the Rollei for just under 280 euros Action Cam 5+ an easy-to-use camera that, together with the equipment, provides a lot of and above all lasting fun when documenting your own cycling experiences.
