The name Assos is borrowed from Greek mythology and means something like "the first", thus emphasizing the company maxim of being the innovative and qualitative market leader in the field of bicycle clothing. And when it comes to bib shorts, this may well be the case without being asked. Assos is undoubtedly one of the references here. For this reason, the Swiss could also afford to work on the latest trousers collection for almost six years after developing the S5. This was now in Lugano under the motto Game Changer presented.
Overall, the developers around R&D Director Omar Visentin and the experienced ex-professional Daniele Nardello have created four models that are on the one hand interesting in terms of price, on the other hand very proud. However, none of them lack know-how.
//T.Neopro
The T.Neopro is the least expensive pair of trousers in the new collection at EUR 139,00. It has a so-called "regular fit", i.e. it has a looser cut than racing pants. Compared to the S5, it has fewer seams. According to Assos, this not only reduced the weight, but also eliminated points of friction. The T.Neopro should therefore be more durable than previous Swiss models. The materials used should also contribute to this. Assos uses two completely new materials here, the advantages of which are expressed in higher elasticity, increased compression and better abrasion properties.
The special feature of the new trousers is the three-layer padding. This is not sewn to the pants in the middle. "Golden Gate", Assos calls this solution, which should ensure reduced friction in the crotch area. This is also worked in such a way that the panels in this area are sewn together in a V-shape. This also has to do with the special shape of the upholstery, after all it is shaped at the front in such a way that there is more space for the genitals. The back area is made of mesh, which ends in a Y-shaped strap attachment. This results in a comfortable fit, which offers more freedom of movement in use.
//T.Equipe
The T.Equipe is the upgrade of T.Neopro. It has a similar cut, but has a five-layer upholstery, on the front of which is the so-called "Kuku Penthouse" is incorporated. Assos also uses materials that reflect the sun and should therefore give a cooling feeling even in summer. The "Race Fit" pants are primarily aimed at sporty drivers who, in addition to the padding, also need the elasticity and compression of the T.Equipe appreciate it - and are willing to pay 179,00 euros for it.
//T.Cento
The third model of the new collection is the T cento. Compared to the three other models, the upholstery, which is also made of five layers, is particularly striking. In contrast to that of T.Equipe however, it is significantly thicker – a whopping 25 percent to be precise. The looser cut of the trousers also makes it clear that this model is the "Granfondo Pants" who is Swiss. Assos uses a robust spandex-polyester mix to ensure comfort and quality are maintained even on long journeys. The T. Cento weighs heavily at 239,00 euros.
//T.campionisimo
The T. Campionissimo is the top model of the new collection. Without a doubt she is the new one "Race pants" from the house of Assos. Of all four trousers, it has the thinnest padding and is therefore primarily aimed at frequent drivers. All five panels of the upholstery, on the front of which the "KuKuPenthouse" colored are, as with the other models, handcrafted. Does the cut of the pants look the same at first glance? T.Equipe, but materials are used here that offer even more elasticity and compression. The back is also worked a little differently. For the first time in its history, Assos is also using woven fabrics, which explains the proud price of 339,00 euros.
All four models in the S7 collection comply with UCI specifications, so they can also be worn in licensed races without hesitation. If a pair of pants is damaged within the first month of purchase, Assos will refund it. In this case, customers do not incur any additional costs.
As part of the presentation of the four new pants, we had the opportunity, together with the Assos model Andrea Zamboni as well as Daniele Nardello and riders from the Assos factory team, who T.Equipe to test on a demanding circuit around Lugano. Anyone who is familiar with the topographical characteristics of the region is aware that the constant changes in rhythm not only challenge you, but also the material. For the T.Equipe In any case, this was not a problem. From the first moment, the trousers were comfortable and despite her "race"- Cut comfortably. However, the upholstery made the biggest impression. Anyone who loves using their S5 will love the new upholstery "idolize". Let me say to everyone else: based on the first impression, it can easily compete with the best upholstery currently on the market.
