cycling: Giro dell'Emilia: Ulissi in top form

12 October 2013 by Veit Hammer

ulissi

Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) is currently in top form. After his victories in Milan-Turin and the Coppa Sabatini, the young Italian has now also secured the Giro dell'Emilia. Thanks to a strong start on the final climb, he won again just before the finish. Behind Ulissi, Chris Anker Sörensen (Saxo-Tinkoff) and Davide Villella (Cannondale) took the other podium places.

The race started very quickly and it took almost 70 kilometers before Nicki Sörensen (Saxo-Tinkoff) managed to break away from the field. At his rear followed Manuele Mori (Lampre-Merida) and Fabio Taborre (Vini Fantini-Selle Italia) along with 9 other riders. However, their escape did not last long. The group had already shrunk to five riders by the second crossing in Colle di San Luca, the climb to the finish line, which had to be driven a total of three times. After that, the favorites caught up to the top.
