Wales lived up to at least one cliché last weekend as the inclement weather was to prove one of the toughest opponents for Ironman Wales competitors that day.
Michael Göhner in particular celebrated a successful comeback. Thanks to a strong mileage, he was able to secure third place in the end. Previously, he had lost valuable time in swimming and on the bike to Briton Scott Neyedli and Poland's Marek Jaskolka, which he was unable to make up for in his favorite discipline.
From a German point of view, Katja Konschak was particularly strong among the women. She also made it onto the podium in Pembrokeshire. However, the gaps here were much larger. This was mainly due to an extremely good mood Lucy Gossage, who at the finish had a lead of almost half an hour on the second-placed Swiss Regula Rohrbach. Another six minutes behind followed Konschak. While she, like Göhner, bought her ticket for Hawaii, Markus Thomschke and Julia Gajer completed the good German performance as fourth.
