How many bikes can you ride in a single day?
A difficult question. As much as you enjoy sitting in the saddle, sooner or later you will reach the limits of what is physically possible. Thomas Frischknecht and Thomas Giger worked hard and pushed the limits of what was possible last Monday. The project was simple and yet difficult to implement: to collect as many meters of depth as possible within one day.
The two XC enthusiasts found the perfect conditions for their project in the bike region of Davos in Switzerland. They used the "Bahnentour Davos Klosters" tour, which is offered to every ambitious mountain biker, as a basis. This includes a tight 10000 meters of altitude. Even before sunrise, Frischknecht and Giger were on the Jakobshorn at an altitude of 2950 meters. Her 13-hour world record attempt started there. With the help of mountain railways, the two managed a total distance of 125 kilometers with an altitude difference of 13572 meters, whereby they had to climb 830 meters under their own steam.
As the highlight of the day, Giger and Frischknecht were flown to the Weissfluh summit in a helicopter. From there we climbed the last few meters to the small, tranquil village of Küblis – the final destination of the world record project.
“I'm still a biker through and through. Today was breathtaking, almost an overdose of alpine mountain biking. It is a very special feeling to have mastered this challenge.", according to Thomas Frischknecht.
