World champion Sven Nys lived up to his rainbow jersey at the start of the season. In Las Vegas he confidently secured his first win of the season. At the "Cross Vegas", one of the main sporting events at the Interbike trade fair, the Belgian won ahead of the American Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) and the Canadian Goeff Kabush (Scott).
Nys dominated the competition from the start. Together with the American Ryan Trebon (Cannondale), he already pulled away shortly after the start. On the technically demanding course, however, Trebon was quickly no longer able to follow him and in the end even fell back to fourth place. Across from sporza.be Nys described his simple tactics after the race: "I felt really strong from the start, so I just rode."
In the women's category, the Czech Katerina Nash (Luna) won, who, like Nys, dominated the race almost at will.
