After Shimano lifted the curtain a few weeks ago and the 11-speed "Ultegra 6800" presented to the public, it seemed only a matter of time before the Japanese would present the electronic version. Today, matching the start of the Tour de France in Corsica, the time had come.

The "Ultegra 6870 Di2" replaces the "Ultegra 6770 Di2" and will like the mechanical "Ultegra 6800" have 11 sprockets on the cassette. Prices for the respective components are not yet fixed, but the weights, which we have listed at the end of the article, are.

// ST-6870 lever

The levers of "Ultegra 6870 Di2" have the same advantages as those of the "Dura Ace 9070 Di2" are known from. They are narrow but have a good grip and give a very direct shift feel. Compared to its predecessor, the shift area is more perforated and thus provides better feedback. Besides, they are "ST-6870" 20 grams lighter than that "Ultegra 6770 Di2"-pendant.

// FD-6870 derailleur

Similar to the rear derailleur and the levers, the front derailleur has become a lot slimmer. At the technology has to "Ultegra 6770 Di2"-Model nothing changed. The front derailleur is 12 grams lighter.

// RD-6870 rear derailleur

The dimensions of the new rear derailleur are the same as those of the more expensive ones "Dura Ace 9070 Di2" and is therefore a lot more compact than the previous model. That comes with it "RD-6870" in two versions that differ in the size of the cage. The reason for this is the desired compatibility with cassettes of sizes 11 to 32 and 11 to 28 teeth.

As known from its big brother "Dura-Ace", the new "Ultegra 6870 Di2" rear derailleur can also be operated and individually adjusted using Shimano's E-Tube software. The positive thing is that the rear derailleur switches off automatically in the event of a fall.
